MEAN WELL 24VDC power supplies for PLCs, sensors, actuators and control cabinets: slim DIN rail units from 15 W to 960 W, three-phase input models, DC-UPS and DC-DC modules, and enclosed panel-mount supplies.
Add up the continuous current of everything on the 24V bus: PLC CPU and I/O modules, sensors, relays, solenoid valves, HMI and network devices. Then check the inrush or peak current of coils, valves and capacitive loads, and keep 20โ30% headroom so the supply runs at about 80% of its rating.
Several series handle short peaks above their rating: for example, the SDR-480 datasheet lists 720 W peak for 3 seconds. Check the PEAK CURRENT line of the datasheet before relying on it.
Compact single-phase 24V units for small panels and distribution boxes. HDR has an ultra-slim step shape, MDR is a compact general-purpose series, EDR is the economy line and NDR the slim workhorse for machine panels.

For larger machines and motion panels: NDR, SDR (active PFC, DC OK relay and peak power capability) and the ultra-slim XDR / XDR-E series.

Most panels feed the 24V supply from a single-phase 100โ240 VAC circuit. If the cabinet only has a 400/480 VAC three-phase supply, or the 24V load is large, use a wide-input or three-phase model:

Two ways to keep a 24V bus running when one supply fails or you need more power:
Two supplies feed a redundancy module such as the DR-RDN20 (two 21โ28 V inputs, 20 A per input, input OK LEDs). If one supply fails, the other carries the load.
Only connect supplies in parallel when the datasheet allows it. For example, the DDR-240 datasheet allows up to 4 units in parallel and current sharing up to 960 W (3+1).
DRP-3200 rack-mountable front end rectifier systems are quoted per project. Tell us the load, redundancy level and input.
A DC-UPS keeps the PLC, HMI and network alive through short outages. The DRS-240 combines a 24V supply, battery charger and DC UPS function, with AC fail and battery low signals for the PLC. DRC and DR-UPS series are available by quote.
Battery-fed panels can use a DIN rail DC-DC converter: DDR-120A-24 runs from a 12V battery (9โ18 V input) and DDR-240C-24 from a 48V battery (33.6โ67.2 V input).

When there is back-panel space instead of DIN rail, enclosed supplies give more watts per dollar. LRS covers 35 W to 1200 W, RSP adds PFC for higher-power panels, and the slim UHP series is available by quote.

Add the continuous current of the PLC, I/O, sensors and outputs, multiply by 24 V and divide by 0.8. Example: 0.5 A CPU + 1.5 A I/O + 1 A sensors + 2 A valves = 5 A ร 24 V = 120 W, so choose at least 150 W, such as the EDR-150-24 or XDR-150E-24. Check inrush of coils and valves against the supply peak rating.
HDR is ultra slim with a step shape for distribution boxes (15โ150 W). EDR is the economy line. NDR is a slim general-purpose series up to 480 W. SDR has active PFC, a DC OK relay and peak power capability for demanding loads. All four are DIN rail mount; see the comparison table above.
For redundancy, use a redundancy module such as the DR-RDN20 between two supplies, so one can fail without dropping the 24V bus. Connect outputs directly in parallel only when the datasheet allows it, for example the DDR-240 (up to 4 units).
Only if the cabinet has no single-phase supply or you need a large 24V load from a 400/480 VAC feed. WDR models accept 180โ550 VAC, and the TDR-480 datasheet lists three-phase 340โ550 VAC input.
Use a supply with a DC UPS function such as the DRS-240-24, which charges the battery and switches to it when AC fails, and sends AC fail and battery low signals to the PLC. Size the battery for the backup time you need.
It is a North American hazardous-location classification for areas where flammable gases or vapors are present only under abnormal conditions. Use only models whose datasheet lists it, such as the MDR-40, MDR-60 and XDR-120 on this page.
24VDC is the standard for PLC I/O, sensors and relays. 12V suits small panels and some instruments. 48V halves the current of 24V for the same power, which helps with long cable runs and higher-power drives.
